BREVARD COUNTY, FLA,—The Health First Foundation received $25,000 to create the Brevard Indo-American Medical and Dental Association (BIMDA) Nursing Scholarship Fund in honor of Glad Kurian, BIMDA Founder and Honorary Executive Director, and Dr. Gobivenkata Balaji, Health First Foundation Board Member.

The endowment supports the Health First Nursing Excellence Fund, which provides scholarships to Health First nurses seeking to advance their education and professional careers through tuition assistance and certification classes. Since 2015, Health First has awarded $800,000 in scholarship support to nearly 300 deserving nurses.

“I’ve been a friend of Health First since the early 1990s and have seen firsthand the impact they’ve made in our community,” said Kurian. “We are happy to support the nursing excellence fund and wish all the scholarship recipients a bright future.”

It takes a special kind of person to be a nurse who invests in their continued education and growth. My colleagues and I know the importance of meeting this need,” said Dr. Balaji. “We are honored to help provide advanced education to Health First nurses who care for our friends, families, and neighbors every day.”

“We are humbled to provide support to an important organization in our community and the worthy cause of continued education. BIMDA values lifelong learning and is pleased to partner with a local healthcare organization that cares for so many people in Brevard,” Dr. Subhash Rege, Chairman and President, BIMDA.

“BIMDA has been an outstanding partner,” said Michael Seeley, Health First Foundation President. “Their continued generosity supports dedicated nurses and sustains our level of excellence, strengthens our hospitals and services, and provides the gift of healing and hope to our community.”

(Jan. 13, 2021) — Homeless organizations from throughout Brevard County recently received a special donation supplied by the Brevard Indo–American Medical and Dental Association (BIMDA) and its national organization, the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), in collaboration with Promise Inc.

Staff from Promise in Brevard, along with several Promise residents, hand–delivered more than 100 brand new fleece blankets Jan. 8 to the Brevard Homeless Coalition, Genesis House, Nana’s House, Family Promise of Brevard and the South Brevard Sharing Center to be dispersed among their clientele. With the recent waves of cold weather, the timing could not have been better.

“This was such a great community effort from all parties, and we are thrilled to have been a part of it,” said Jeff Kiel, president and CEO of Promise Inc. “We are excited to partner with BIMDA, as its members seem to truly understand the needs of the community and actively
seek out ways to give back.”

In addition to the blankets, BIMDA presented each organization, including Promise, with a generous monetary donation.

“BIMDA feels very humble to have the opportunity to provide outreach to such amazing organizations,” said Dr. Devin Datta, an orthopedist and spine surgeon who is chairman and president of BIMDA. “Promise in Brevard fills such an important need in Brevard County as do all of these wonderful organizations.”

“BIMDA is truly pleased to collaborate with AAPI and its president, Dr. Sudhakar Jonnalagadda, and Promise in Brevard on this special project,” added Glad Kurian, honorary executive director of BIMDA. “Philanthropy is alive and well in our community, and I am so happy that we can all make a positive contribution to our fellow men.”

Dr. Sue Mitra, board–certified in internal medicine and a longtime board member of BIMDA, shared the sentiments of her associates regarding BIMDA and the timely
community effort.

“Having volunteered my time and leadership at BIMDA for more than 20 years, I am proud to belong to this nonprofit, physician–driven association that has served as a role model in building a strong community, bringing together all local hospitals, physician practices,
doctors, dentists, and allied health professionals to raise funds for worthy charities, while also enhancing continuing medical education, scientific advancements and deeper
understanding between all professionals.”

Dear friend,

I'm excited to share that my new book, co-written with Ambassador Pradeep Kapur, Beyond the COVID-19 Pandemic: Envisioning a Better World By Transforming the Future of Healthcare, has launched.
To commemorate this milestone, I'd like to invite you to a special event hosted by WHEELS Global Foundation. This event will be in-person with the option to attend virtually.

Beyond the COVID-19 Pandemic: Envisioning a Better World by Transforming the Future of Healthcare

Join the WHEELS Global Foundation, American Association of Physicians of India Origin (AAPI), PanIIT USA, and the Indo-American Press Club to celebrate the launch of a new book, which presents a non-partisan, solutions-based approach to healthcare for all.

WHAT:
Join Ambassador Pradeep Kapur and Dr. Joseph Chalil as they celebrate the launch of their new book, Beyond the COVID-19 Pandemic: Envisioning a Better World by Transforming the Future of Healthcare. The authors will discuss the lessons learned in the book and will present their “Grand Plan”—a revolutionary solutions-based approach to healthcare in the United States and around the world.

Speakers include Mr. Sundaram Srinivasan, President of PAN IIT, Dr. Sudhakar Jonalgadda, MD President of AAPI, and Mr. Aneesh Chopra, President of Care Journey and Former U.S. Chief Technology Officer under President Obama.

WHO:

Ambassador Pradeep K. Kapur is an acknowledged “luminary diplomat,” with a distinguished career working with leaders and policymakers around the world. Author and editor of many books, he was Ambassador of India to Chile and to Cambodia, as well as Secretary at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.

His healthcare contributions include setting up the acclaimed bilateral India Nepal initiative, the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences. Additionally, he brings decades of global public policy experience and historical perspectives to the solutions that make Beyond the COVID-19 Pandemic: Envisioning a Better World by Transforming the Future of Healthcare unique.

A graduate of the globally acclaimed Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-D), he is Executive Director of Smart Village Development Fund (SVDF) of the WHEELS Global Foundation.

Dr. Joseph M. Chalil, an author of several scientific and research papers in international publications, is the Chairman of the Complex Health Systems Advisory Board, H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship at Nova Southeastern University in Florida and a member of Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine (NSU MD) Executive Leadership Council.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy Medical Corps, he is board certified in healthcare management. He has been awarded a Fellowship by the American College of Healthcare Executives, an international professional society of more than 40,000 healthcare executives who lead hospitals, healthcare systems, and other healthcare organizations.

He is an expert in U.S. healthcare policy and a strong advocate for patient-centered care. With over two decades of experience working in the U.S. healthcare system, he discusses healthcare delivery challenges, including providing quality, affordable patient care to all, and alternate templates for health insurance.

MORE:

The global COVID-19 pandemic made apparent that the existing public policy and current healthcare systems are ill-prepared to deal with the global challenges of providing quality and affordable healthcare; still, a non-partisan solution to healthcare reform has yet to land on the table.

Until now.

In their book, Beyond the COVID-19 Pandemic: Envisioning a Better World by Transforming the Future of Healthcare, authors Ambassador Pradeep K. Kapur and Dr. Joseph M. Chalil present SafetyNet, a healthcare-for-all policy, based on decades of experience in public policy and healthcare management, that challenges the world to have the political consensus to create meaningful change for all—both in the United States and worldwide.

Endorsed by policymakers, thought leaders, Ambassadors worldwide, leading healthcare professionals, and best-selling authors, Beyond the COVID-19 Pandemic asks the questions: what if it’s not reform we need, but instead a revolution? What if we reimagined a healthcare system with patients, not big pharma and insurance companies, in the driver’s seat?

For a solutions-based, scientifically, and data-driven approach to Healthcare For All, explore Ambassador Kapur and Dr. Chalil’s Beyond the COVID-19 Pandemic—available today.

Dear Mr. Kurian and members of the Brevard Indo-American Medical & Dental Association,

On behalf of the Steward Health Care Disaster Relief Foundation, please accept my most sincere thanks and appreciation for the support your organization and membership has shown to our newly created 501 ( c) (3) non-profit. You are helping to make a difference in our Florida community for employees of Steward Health Care.

The Steward Health Care Disaster Relief Foundation was designed to aid Steward Health Care employees in the face of natural disaster and certain emergencies. In the past few years, our employees in various regions of the country have been affected by devastating floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, and tornados. They have shown an admirable spirit of resilience throughout. Now, in the face ofCOVID-19, your gifts will make a meaningful difference.

We are proud of the work Steward Health Care does in Florida and grateful Steward providers can be a resource to patients in the communities of Rockledge, Melbourne, and Sebastian. With the creation of the Steward Health Care Disaster Relief Foundation, we are now able to also assist employees in need. The Foundation is a resource we hope to carry forward for a long time to come and be an avenue of support when employees have a demonstrated need.

Thank you for your interest in the Steward Health Care Disaster Relief Foundation. Steward Health Care is proud to have numerous members of BIMDA as part of the health care teams in the region who provide expert and compassionate care. We greatly appreciate your spirit of collaboration and your desire to give back to support the Foundation's mission.

Sincerely,

Robert E. Guyon, Jr.
