BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Dr. Ashok Shah, a former president of the Brevard Indo-American Medical & Dental Association (BIMDA), has been appointed to the North Brevard County Hospital District Board of Directors.

The Board of County Commissioners unanimously selected Dr. Shah to the board, which oversees the operation of Parrish Medical Center in Titusville.

The North Brevard Hospital District Board includes nine-members, with three appointed by the Titusville City Council, three appointed by the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners and three members appointed by the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners with city council confirmation. Members are appointed to four-year terms.


BIMDA HAS RICH HISTORY ON THE SPACE COAST


Dr. Kopuri“We wish to recognize and congratulate Dr. Shah,” said Dr. N. Rao Kopuri, president of BIMDA.

Dr. Shah, an Internist with Parrish Medical Center, is the first Indian-American physician to serve on the Board of Parrish Medical Center. He is a member of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) and resides in Titusville with his wife Geeta.

The original Parrish Medical Center was opened in 1958, and an $80 million replacement facility opened in 2002. The District extends north to the Volusia County line, south to Port St. John, from the Atlantic Ocean east to the St. Johns River on the west.

The District’s largest community is Titusville and the hospital is the designated primary emergency receiving facility for Kennedy Space Center astronauts and support personnel.
